U.K.: OFT probes £23.8M deal in sports merchandise merger

The OFT has begun investigating Sports Direct’s acquisition of 20 JBB sports equipment stores, a deal made for £23.8 million including the JBB brand and its websites. Sports Direct is owned by Mike Ashley’s Newcastle United. The OFT has set a deadline of November 2 to conclude whether the merger presents any threat to competition.
