U.S. Cement exec repeals higher-than-recommended bid-rigging sentence

Former president of GCC Alliance Concrete Inc. is appealing his 48-month prison sentence after being found guilty of price-fixing and bid-rigging, arguing the sentencing judge took “extensive liberties” after a recommended sentence of only 19 months was disregarded. Lawyers for Steven VandeBrake filed a petition with the Supreme Court last week arguing that VandeBrake’s sentence was significantly harsher than the norm for such charges.
