Uganda: Telco forecast looking up towards competition

The Uganda Communications Commission released an optimistic forecast for the nation’s telecommunications sector, reports say.

The regulator has predicted market growth of 6.2 percent in the year as consumers are more able to obtain mobile phones and wireless service. The Commission has been known to predict boosted competition in the market as experts witness the streamlining of regulatory oversight of the industry.

Telco research group BuddeComm said the “simplified and converged licensing regime has significantly reduced barriers to market entry and increased competition” within the telecommunications market.
