The UK’s Office of Fair Trading released a report Tuesday that shows significant concerns over the lack of competition in the IT sector.
The OFT found barriers to entry into the industry as well as a lack of switching between IT suppliers, both causes for concern. The regulator has also suggested remedies to boost competition, which reportedly include boosting transparency between IT suppliers and public sector customers, as well as improvements over how the public sector handles contracts with suppliers.
Reports say the OFT found that competition issues were worsened by a lack of information by customers over whether a proposed IT service is the best option for them.
The authority did not specify next steps in the case, or whether it would have the incoming Competition and Markets Authority continue where the OFT leaves off on the matter.
