In an interview with the Financial Times, Jeroen Hoencamp, chief executive of Vodafone’s British business, laid out plans for a £1bn investment in its UK network this year.

Mr Hoencamp says Vodafone has looked at acquisition targets such as rival TalkTalk as it readies itself to compete in a British telecoms market.

Following the acquisition of EE by BT and the merger of Three and O2 in the UK, Vodafone will become the smallest mobile operator in its home market.

The group will ask the regulator to force BT and EE to relinquish crucial spectrum needed for mobile services as well as improve access and costs to use BT’s broadband network.

“BT and EE is creating a dominant player in consumer and enterprise. There needs to be fair competition.”
