US: Alabama TV stations plan to create top broadcaster

Two local television stations in Alabama have reportedly inked an agreement to merge, striking a deal that will create one of the US’s largest broadcasting companies.

    Reports say Media General will acquire LIN Media in a $1.6 billion transaction, creating a new company known as Media General. The combined firm will oversee 74 stations across 46 markets, reports say, reaching an estimated 23 percent of US households.

    The companies said they expect to finalize the deal in early 2015, though it remains subject to regulatory approval.
