Product-review software company Bazaarvoice has struck an agreement with the US Department of Justice after officials sued the company over what they considered an anticompetitive acquisition of PowerReviews.
According to reports, Bazaarvoice has agreed to divest assets to unwind the acquisition, made in 2012 for $168 million.
In a statement, Bazaarvoice said Viewpoints will acquire the assets that hold PowerReviews operations.
Bazaarvoice fought the DOJ’s ruling that the merger harmed the online ratings industry, but a federal judge earlier this year sided with the regulator. The DOJ resolved that the only proper solution would be for Bazaarvoice to unwind the tie-up.
Bazaarvoice’s planned sale remains subject to approval by the court.
