US: Discovery Channel network merger talks implode

 |  January 13, 2014

Plans of a possible merger between Discovery Communications – the owner of the Discovery Channel – and Scripps Networks have reportedly ended without any buyout offer being made, say reports.

Discovery was looking to acquire the Scripps company, the plans of which were first announced last month. But reports say Discovery never made an acquisition offer, though sources are not sure why merger talks failed.

Scripps declined to comment on the matter, and Discovery similarly did not reply to requests for comment, say reports.

The two companies are among the top providers of nonfiction television content, including Animal Planet, the Travel Channel, and others.
