Following months of speculation and a long and complex process, a merger between Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent is one very large step closer to being finalized.
The companies have announced that the US Department of Justice has granted early termination of the domestic antitrust suit waiting period. This action removes any regulatory obstacles in regard to the merger, effectively clearing the way for the companies to move forward, at least as far as the US government is concerned.
Before the merger can be finalized, antitrust hurdles must still be cleared in Brazil and Serbia, and Nokia shareholders still need to give their final OK to the transaction before it can be finalized.
From a joint statement: “Both companies will continue to cooperate with the remaining authorities to close their reviews as quickly as possible.”
