US: McSweeny gives FTC antitrust enforcement a leg-up

Terrell McSweeny began her work as the fifth Federal Trade Commissioner this week, the start of a position that allows the regulator to more aggressively pursue antitrust interests, reports say.

McSweeny has tipped the balance within the FTC to give Democrats a majority for the first time in more than a year, according to reports, allowing fellow Democrat and FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez to use stronger momentum in her agenda.

McSweeny had previously served at the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division as well as an adviser to Vice President Joe Biden.
