US: Oil collaborators warned to watch their backs

According to one lawyer, the increasingly stern grasp over the oil industry from antitrust regulators has those in the oil business on high alert when looking to collaborate with others or launch joint ventures. As antitrust regulators have upped their intensity for overlooking the industry, collaborations that may be considered routine by the industry’s standards may pose as violations in the eyes of authorities like the Department of Justice or the Federal Trade Commission. According to this commentary, the heavy handedness of authorities into the oil industry can, in part, be chalked up to consumers’ concerns over gas prices.
