US: Supermarkets complete $2.5B super merger

Supermarket chains Harris Teeter and Kroger have completed their merger inked at $2.5 billion, reports say, that now places Harris Teeter as a subsidiary of The Kroger Co.

    The firms announced last July the plan to merge, though the deal preserves the Harris Teeter name, brand and headquarters.

    According to Kroger, the merger is expected to improve branding for both companies, and publically commended Harris Teeter for its “customer orientation, friendly and professional associates, strong management team and company values” as consistent with the Kroger name.
