Vietnam: Tourism group probed for dominating Russian services

Vietnam competition authorities have reportedly launched an investigation into a leading tourism business following allegations the company attempted to monopolize the Russian tourism industry.

    The nation’s Competition Administration Department of the Industry and Trade Ministry said it opened a case against Anh Duong Company in response to a formal complaint by rival ABTours, filed in April.

    In the complaint, ABTours said Anh Duong partnered with Pegas Touristik, based in Russia, to boost tourism from Vietnam to Russia. The tourism company established contracts with Russian hotels that prohibited bookings right rival tourist companies from Vietnam, the complaint alleged.

    Sources said some hotels and travel agents confirmed the charges.

    According to reports, the partnership lead Anh Duong to book 720 of the 730 charted flights from Russia to Vietnam, while ABTours charted only the remaining 10.
