The landscape of Spain’s telecommunications market has changed drastically in the last year, a report by market regulator CNMC has found. Telecable and Euskaltel have joined the Top 5 of Spain’s largest landline operators. The two come in replacing Jazztel and Ono, which were recently bought out by larger rivals Orange and Vodafone, respectively.
On the other hand, the Spanish mobile market has not changed since the latest report, which used 2013 data to find Telefónica Móvil, Orange Espagne, Vodafone España, Yoige and Lycamobile as the five top dogs in this sector.
The ranking by the CNMC relies on data from 2015. Its list of 5 mobile and 5 landline operators establishes those companies which control a significant market share in their sector, and has deep implications for those involved, including a series of limitations and barriers to shareholders with stakes in more than one of the listed enterprises. The process is intended to prevent anti-competitive behavior.
