BRG Announces New Global Leader for Its Digital Economy and Platform Markets Practice

Global consulting and expert services firm Berkeley Research Group (BRG) has appointed Dr. Rosa (Romy) M. Abrantes-Metz as the new global leader of its Digital Economy and Platform Markets practice. According to a statement from the firm, she succeeds Dr. David Evans, who founded and led the practice. Evans will continue to serve as a managing director at BRG.

    The practice brings together leading specialists in platform economics and big data, including Dr. Aleksandra Boutin, Dr. Xavier Boutin, Dr. Kai-Uwe Kuhn, and David Parker. BRG also maintains academic relationships with economic scholars such as Professor Richard Schmalensee, per the statement.

    Abrantes-Metz, recognized for her work in antitrust and digital markets, has advised clients on litigation, regulatory, and policy matters across digital platforms and multisided markets. Her data-driven approaches to detecting market manipulation and collusion have influenced both academic research and regulatory investigations around the world.

    Recently, Abrantes-Metz provided expert testimony for the U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of State in their antitrust case involving Google’s ad tech operations. According to a statement, her analysis helped shape the understanding of competition dynamics within digital platform markets. She has also counseled clients in sectors including online advertising, e-commerce, financial services, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain.

    Dr. David Sunding, BRG’s Vice Chairman and leader of its global Economics, Disputes & Investigations business line, praised Abrantes-Metz’s appointment, saying her combination of data expertise and regulatory insight positions her to drive the practice’s continued growth.

    Under Abrantes-Metz’s leadership, the Digital Economy and Platform Markets practice will continue its work advising global law firms, technology companies, and government agencies such as the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the European Commission. The team will focus on issues in digital competition, data analytics, and artificial intelligence, according to the firm.
