UK Watchdog Launches Ten-Year Review of Concurrency Arrangements

 |  August 24, 2023

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched a ten-year review of the concurrency arrangements – a framework setting out how CMA and sector regulators work together to enforce competition law and promote competition in the regulated sectors.

In 2014, reforms were introduced to enhance the concurrency arrangements and strengthen cooperation between the CMA and sector regulators on their shared competition powers.

Commenting on the review, CMA states: “The CMA is calling for views and feedback on the impact and effectiveness of the concurrency arrangements from as diverse a range of perspectives as possible.”

The review will seek to assess the impact and effectiveness of the framework on competition in the regulated sectors. It will also assess the effectiveness of the cooperation between the CMA and sector regulators on their shared competition powers.

The CMA expects to report the review findings on the Concurrency Review case page in Spring 2024.

The CMA hopes that the review will bring about more competitive outcomes for UK consumers. Including lower prices, greater choice, and better-quality services.
