Foxtel-Austar decision delayed by ACCC

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has delayed a decision on Foxtel’s proposed acquisition of Austar. A new deadline has not yet been set.

The decision comes after, but is not related to, allegations of News Corp’s piracy of pay-TV technology. The police are currently investigating claims that News Corp helped NDS hack smart cards to give viewers free access to rival pay-TV programming. News Corp owns 25 percent of Foxtel.
