MoviePass, the troubled movie subscription service that started with unlimited movies but eventually added pricing tiers and blackout times, has revived its original selling point of endless movie tickets, according to a report.
The new service, called MoviePass Uncapped, will offer an unlimited number of 2D movie tickets at the regular price $19.95 per month. However, the company is currently offering a special deal: If a customer pays for a full year through an ACH payment, the service will cost $9.95 per month; otherwise, it will cost $14.95 per month.
The company said it wants to avoid its previous issues with pricing and terms of use. “MoviePass has the right to limit the selection of movies and/or the times of available movies should your individual use adversely impact MoviePass’ system-wide capacity or the availability of the service for other subscribers,” the company noted.
There is also a restriction requiring that tickets be reserved three hours before a movie starts and that buyers check in between 10 and 30 minutes before showtime.
The new plan replaces the December tiered-price structure. Those who are already signed up for the service can continue with their current subscriptions, but new users cannot.
Ted Farnsworth, CEO of MoviePass’ parent company, said the company has been listening to the wants of its customers.
“We are – and have been – listening to our subscribers every day, and we understand that an uncapped subscription plan at the $9.95 price point is the most appealing option to our subscribers,” he said. “While we’ve had to modify our service a number of times in order to continue delivering a movie-going experience to our subscribers, with this new offering we are doing everything we can to bring people a version of the service that originally won their hearts.”
