NFC-Enabled Light Posts To Offer Targeted Deals In Japan

Three hundred light posts in Tokyo’s busy Shibuya shopping district will now be equipped with an NFC-based information and advertising service. The platform comes courtesy of CyberAgent, Shibuya Television and Toppan Printing that allows smartphone users to receive information as they walk, NFC World reports.

    To start, the news outlet says the Shibuya Clickable Project will place NFC tags in stickers on the poles, which are equipped with systems that are time and location aware, allowing passersby to receive targeted deals for nearby businesses and events.

    “Future developments will include allowing shoppers to access emergency and civil disaster information by tapping the tags, as well as the chance to take part in treasure hunt games in the Shibuya area,” the report says.

    Initially the program will launch in the Koen-dori District and is expected to expand in June.
