Chunghwa Telecom’s digital wallet-powered mobile credit card service is now live in Taiwan through Cathay United Bank, according to a report by NFC World. The program is currently available on a small scale, and is being used by Chunghwa and the bank’s employees, who can download MasterCard PayPass credit cards to NFC-enabled SIMs for purchases.
“The general public can also start applying to use the service as of today and it should be made available to them by the end of this year but I think it might be even sooner than the end of this year if there are no security issues and everything goes to plan with the first roll out of the service,” Joseph Kuo, the company’s managing director, said in a release.
Three other banks are expected to follow with similar pilot programs in the coming weeks.
