Google Instant Buy API Now Available for iOS

After launching about a year ago for Android products, the Google-wallet Instant Buy feature will now be available for apps developed for iPhone and iPad users.

The iOs version of the API will allow developers to integrate Google Wallet’s checkout into their apps, which means users may be able to check out at purchase time with as few as two clicks.

Instant Buy provides a cloud-storage solution for payment data – shipping and card information is held on Google’s servers until such time as the merchant completes the transaction, at which time Google passes the information along.  The service is free, and Google provides an additional layer of fraud monitoring over the credit card networks’ and banks’ precautions.

The Instant Buy solution is meant to solve an essential and recurring problem of mobile commerce: shoppers who get fed up with the irritating process of online shopping and abandon their carts until they are on a device that will allow them to view multiple windows at once.  If users have a convenient way to tap and pay, the theory goes, they will be less likely to bail on their mobile shopping experiences.
