MasterCard will turn 45 this November. But rather than reflecting on past successes and resting on those laurels, Gary Flood, President of Global Products and Solutions, said MasterCard is already looking toward next “next 10, 20, 30 million merchants that could be eligible to participate in our system.”
“We’ve built a tremendous franchise with an outstanding foundation globally,” he continued. “But the opportunities that are developing today, given changing technologies and the changing participation of multiple partners… presents a very different proposition than the historic MasterCard.”
Flood, who has been with the company for 25 years, muses in the clip below about how MasterCard’s global partnerships (Google in the United States, Barclaycard and Orange in the United Kingdom, Samsung in Korea, etc.) can help foster “a world beyond cash, taking the paper out of payments” :
