Fall Of Snail Mail Continues: 50 Percent Of Bills Paid Through ACH

NACHA – The Electronic Payments Association recently completed a survey of 1,000 billers that attempted to assess the leading methods consumers use to pay their bills.

The report ultimately found that the majority of billers – 75 percent – offer Direct Payment via ACH to customers. Further, the study determined that the system is just as popular with consumers, as nearly 50 percent reported to paying bills through Direct Payment via ACH.

“There are still many checks being mailed today, so there is a significant opportunity to increase Direct Payment adoption, and during May – Direct Deposit and Direct Payment via ACH Month – we direct both billers and consumers to the available resources and proven practices expanding Direct Payment usage,” Janet Estep, the organization’s president and CEO, said in a release.
