NAFCU Pushes Senate On Consumer Data Protection

The National Association of Federal Credit Unions has pushed the Senate to adopt data security legislation aimed at protecting the personal information of consumers, according to BankCreditNews.com.

“NAFCU hopes to see the Senate begin debate on the issue of cyber security and urge you not to overlook the issue of data security and to consider adding provisions to protect consumers from breaches that compromise their financial and personally identifying information,” said Brad Thaler, vice president of legislative affairs for the NAFCU. “Data security is a common-sense bipartisan issue that must be addressed.”

The House voted to adopt several cyber security measures last week, but previous attempts at passing a cyber security bill through the Senate failed twice last year.
