A senior executive at Visa Europe has predicted that half of all Visa’s payments will come from mobile channels by 2020, according to a The Drum report.
“We expect 50 per cent of our transactions to be from mobile devices by 2020,” Caroline Hawkett, senior VP of new product development for Visa Europe, said at the IAB’s Mobile Engage event in London on Thursday.
Hawkett said Visa believes mobile usage has the power to change how society makes payments. Visa will be working to encourage NFC technology in payments as well as enhancing the customer mobile experience to make them feel more comfortable using their online services.
“As long as we meet all this criteria there is no reason why most consumers will not accept paying via mobile devices,” Hawkett said.
