Canada Unveils Its Own Virtual Currency

Bitcoin has a new Canadian competitor−the Royal Canadian Mint, which has unveiled a government-backed virtual currency called MintChip.

Designed to be used for in-store payments, MintChip, if fully launched, will integrate with users’ mobile devices for simple and easy purchases.

Ingenico, a global point-of-sale terminal developer, is working to include MintChip functionality in its systems, Finextra reported on Jan. 13
