Smarter Signs On The Way From Photon and Panasonic

Photon Interactive, a company that specializes in building mobile experiences for top brands, is now collaborating with Panasonic to develop more tailored experiences via in-store digital signs.

The idea is to combine Photon’s software with Panasonic’s screen displays, so that the displays can know more about the customer. The data obtained can then be used to offer up better-targeted deals as well as the option to check in and shop.

With the new capabilities, customers will be able to view personalized offers, vlocate the product within the store, and use the mobile app to scan bar codes and check out.

It was also noted, according to TechCrunch, that customers could also order from a kiosk or via their smartphone, pick their food up, and then provide feedback.

Photon reported that the technology could also be utilized for hotel check-ins and to help medical patients book appointments, find doctors and collect prescriptions.

Mukund Balasubramanian, CTO and co-founder of Photon, told TechCrunch that the company would collaborate with businesses to “templatize the lifecycle of what a typical customer goes through.”

Photon has also reported 60 million “daily digital touchpoints,” which Balasubramanian says will be helpful to create a more “holistic view” of the customers’ past purchases and what is currently being offered on the web and in stores.

Balasubramanian also informed TechCrunch that he was fully aware that there is plenty of rivalry within the space. “Apple and Google are trying to vie for the future of this omnichannel vision. But it can only be realized with a harmonious marriage of hardware and software.” Balasubramanian is confident that Photon and Panasonic is the perfect couple for this vision. He also noted, “I’m comfortable saying we’re ready and open for business.”
