Expensify Adds Chat Feature for Accountants to Payments App

Expensify has added a chat feature for accountants to its payments app.

The new Expensify Chat feature enables accountants to chat with clients and keep those conversations within the app, the company said in a Friday (May 19) press release.

“The outdated model of using separate apps for tracking tasks, communication and payments has created a less-than-optimal experience that does not meet the needs of modern workflows,” Expensify CEO and founder David Barrett said in the release. “This is a problem that affects all industries, but especially accountants, and is something Expensify is excited to solve with Expensify Chat.”

Expensify Chat also enables accounts to assign tasks to clients and track their progress within the platform, making it easier for them to collaborate with clients to gather information and complete tasks related to financial reporting and tax filing, according to the release.

“This means that all relevant expense data and financial information would already be available within the same system, making it easier for clients to complete their assigned tasks and for accountants to track their progress,” Barrett said in the release.

These new features join the Expensify app’s existing capabilities that help individuals and businesses manage expenses, corporate cards, bills, invoices, payroll and travel booking, according to the release.

PYMNTS research has found that more than two-thirds of consumers across the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Germany are at least slightly or somewhat interested in using a hypothetical super app, and about a quarter of them are very or extremely interested.

The interest is especially high among millennials, with 40% of the members of that generation saying they are very or extremely interested in using a hypothetical super app, according to “Super Apps for the Super Connected,” a PYMNTS and PayPal collaboration.

Expensify’s latest addition to its payments app comes about eight months after the firm partnered with automated corporate bookkeeping platform Botkeeper to streamline monthly receipt management.

With solutions from the two companies, accounting professionals can deploy automation to more easily provide clients with both back-office accounting support and advisory, receipt and expense management services, the companies said at the time.
