Today in FinTech Ukraine: Amex Matches Donations to Ukraine Relief Efforts; Joompay Offers Ukrainian Refugees Free Payment Accounts

In a press release published Thursday (April 7), American Express announced that U.S. card members enrolled in the Membership Rewards program can put their points towards a donation for Ukrainian relief.

This is made possible in partnership with the PayPal Giving Fund.

According to the release, donations made using Amex points go to support select charities that are providing humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine and affected parts of Europe.

Also, between now and June 15, Amex is matching the dollar value of Card Member contributions made using points with PayPal Giving Fund to support eligible charities.

“Through our Membership Rewards points donation match program, we’re proud to offer Card Members another way to help make a difference and are grateful for their support to organizations providing critical assistance to communities that need help now more than ever,” said Howard Grosfield, Amex executive vice president and general manager, U.S. Consumer & Global Premium Services.

Meanwhile, FinTech company Joompay is offering free and instant European payment accounts to help Ukrainian refugees integrate easier into the European financial system.

According to the company’s website, Joompay aims to “support the people who lost their homes and were forced to leave their homeland.”

All the refugees need to sign up for one of the company’s free payment accounts is a Ukrainian passport or Ukrainian ID card.

In order to make the process as easy as possible, the Joompay support team is offering customer service assistance in the Ukrainian language.

After that, new account holders will have 90 days to provide their temporary protection document or a residence permit issued in the EU in order to maintain the account.
