Member engagement, benefits administration and healthcare company NationsBenefits has appointed PayPal veteran Tushar N. Shah as CEO and president of financial technology.

In this role, Shah is tasked with helping the company continue to develop and expand its benefits flex card solution and develop new payments infrastructure and products for healthcare, NationsBenefits said Monday (Oct. 24) in a press release.

“NationsBenefits is at the forefront of innovation to deliver financial health technologies,” Shah said in the release. “I am excited to focus on bringing consumerized payments infrastructure and financial tools to healthcare, health plans and members through the NationsBenefits platform.”

PYMNTS research has found that healthcare has made the leap from paper checks, paper charts, invoices and faxes to the omnichannel experience.

Forty-six percent of consumers reported that they go online and offline to meet with their healthcare providers to get the care that they need, according to “The ConnectedEconomy™: Omnichannel Healthcare Takes Center Stage,” a PYMNTS and CareCredit collaboration.

Before joining NationsBenefits, Shah was senior vice president at PayPal, a company he joined in 2012. Prior to that, he was a technology senior executive for consumer banking, eCommerce sales and services, and software engineering at Bank of America for 10 years, according to the release.

“We are thrilled to have Tushar add to the depth and breadth of our leadership team as we continue to expand our footprint across the nation,” NationsBenefits Founder and CEO Glenn M. Parker said in the release. “Tushar’s deep FinTech experience will be a valuable asset for NationsBenefits during this time of tremendous growth and momentum for our organization.”

This news comes about two months after NationsBenefits announced an agreement to acquire health and wellness-oriented food manufacturer DeliverLean in order to expand its “food as medicine” offering, adding health post-discharge and chronic care meals to the other products it can provide to Medicare beneficiaries.
