Walt Disney Company Launches International Content Hub

The Walt Disney Company is creating a new hub for international content creation that will support the expansion of the company’s direct-to-consumer business and enhance the local and regional content for its streaming services.

Rebecca Campbell will serve as of the new hub, according to the announcement Wednesday (Jan. 19) by Bob Chapek, CEO of The Walt Disney Company.

The International Content and Operations branch will serve as a fourth content creation engine for the Company, joining the Studios Content, General Entertainment Content and Sports Content groups.

The company is also adding other new executives to its Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution (DMED) segment under Chairman Kareem Daniel.

Michael Paull will be the new president of Disney Streaming, which oversees Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ and Star+. He will manage these platforms globally for Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution.

Joe Earley, who previously served as the Disney+ executive vice president, marketing and operations, has been selected to be the new president of Hulu.

A new head of Disney+ has yet to be named. Russell Wolff continues to serve as head of ESPN+.

“Disney’s direct-to-consumer efforts have progressed at a tremendous pace in just a few short years, and our organization has continued to grow and evolve in support of our ambitious global streaming strategy,” said Chapek in the company announcement.

Meanwhile, Disney has been approved for a patent to make interactive, personalized attractions for theme park visitors in the metaverse, according to a Jan. 9 report.

The company was approved for a “virtual-world simulator in a real-world venue” patent on Dec. 28. The technology would include headset-free augmented reality (AR) attractions at the entertainment giant’s theme parks, tracking visitors on their mobile phones and generating and projecting personalized 3D effects on various objects in the park.
