HealthTech company Wheel is to acquire the back-end virtual care technology of GoodRX Care to strengthen Wheel’s virtual-first care platform and accelerate its expansion into new markets.

Wheel will acquire GoodRX Care’s clinician-centric electronic medical records (EMR), clinical management tools, patient experience software and other back-end virtual care technology, the companies said Friday (Nov. 11) in a press release.

GoodRX will continue to own the consumer-facing GoodRX Care website and mobile app, the release said.

“GoodRX is well known in the industry for developing best-in-class virtual care tools,” Wheel CEO and Co-founder Michelle Davey said in the release. “By combining our underlying technologies into one comprehensive and flexible platform, Wheel is well positioned to continue to serve as the leading solution for virtual-first care.”

The two companies have an existing partnership that began in 2020. Since that time, Wheel has provided its technology and clinician network for the GoodRX Care service, according to the release.

Now, GoodRX is focusing on solutions for consumers. So, the companies have also entered into a long-term strategic agreement in which Wheel will continue to support GoodRX Care’s consumer-facing telehealth solutions with its technology and network, per the release.

“Wheel has provided technology and clinicians for GoodRX Care for several years, giving us high confidence in their ability to operate and grow the platform,” GoodRX Co-CEO and Co-founder Doug Hirsch said in the release. “By entering into a long-term strategic arrangement, we look forward to deepening our mutually-beneficial relationship.”

With everything moving to omnichannel efficiencies and capabilities, it’s an ideal moment for modernization of healthcare, Davey told PYMNTS’ Karen Webster in an interview posted in February.

“The future of healthcare is hybrid, and so the future of the clinician workforce is also hybrid,” Davey said at the time. “We’re enabling that journey and ensuring that the clinician is supported along the way.”
