Apple has started taking preorders for a new line of iPhones and HomePod speakers, the company said in a Friday (Nov. 6) press release.
The final two iPhone 12 models — the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the iPhone 12 Mini — were to have launched in September but COVID-related production delays postponed them. This is the first time Apple has simultaneously launched four different iPhone models.
The company said the new phones have more 5G bands than other smartphones. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is said to have the most advanced camera and the biggest display of all the iPhone models. Its ultra-wide camera has a 120-degree field of view and a 65 mm focal length Telephoto camera ranging from 4x to 5x.
The iPhone 12 Mini is advertised as being “the smallest, thinnest, and lightest 5G smartphone in the world” with a 5.4-inch display and dual camera.
The Pro is available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB and has a starting price of $1,099. The Mini comes in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB and starts at $699.
The new line includes MagSafe, a magnetic wireless charging system. Apple is launching the MagSafe Wireless Charger and the MagSafe Duo Wireless Charger, which can simultaneously charge the Apple Watch and iPhone.
The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Mini will arrive in stores on Nov. 13 and the HomePod Mini arrives in stores on Nov. 16.
The new models are powered by the A14 Bionic chip , which uses a 5-nanometer process to reduce transistor size. The iPhone 12 also includes a new 4-core GPU, which is up to 50 percent faster than the competition.
The late arrival of the new iPhones is being blamed for weaker fourth quarter earnings. Apple’s fourth quarter and fiscal year ended Sept. 26. Its market capitalization had been $2.295 trillion on Sept. 1 with a record-high share price of $134.18.
