Buy now, pay later (BNPL) company Klarna has introduced its new one-stop shopping app across the company’s markets, according to a Wednesday (Nov. 3) press release.
With the app, customers can shop at all online stores, peruse exclusive offers, take advantage of curated shopping collections, save items, receive notifications for price decreases, view delivery tracking, and manage payments and returns, the announcement said. The app is available for download on iOS and Android mobile devices in the U.S., U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Poland and France.
Customers using the app can choose Klarna’s interest-free installment payment option at all online shops, even if the merchant is not a direct partner of Klarna, according to the announcement. To date, more than 250,000 retailers have teamed with Klarna, including H&M, IKEA, Expedia Group, Samsung, ASOS, Peloton, Abercrombie & Fitch, Nike and AliExpress.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, mobile commerce continues to surge exponentially. According to Retail Dive, the number of mobile app downloads has grown by 36%, and in-app purchases have increased 54%.
A Klarna-commissioned survey of more than 13,000 respondents in 13 countries found that more than three-quarters of 18-24-year-olds and more than 70% of 24-40-year-olds use their mobile devices more readily to shop than they did two years ago.
“Today, people seek simplicity that solves for their specific needs in one place and enables a range of activities across their shopping journey,” noted Klarna CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski. “Switching between apps is something we as consumers find more and more frustrating.”
Additional app features, including a collective royalty card space, money-saving tools and live shopping events, will be rolled out soon, the company said.
The all-in-one Klarna app launch comes on the heels of this week’s announcement that the company had acquired price comparison platform PriceRunner, as PYMNTS reported. That transaction is aimed at bringing improved app features to Klarna customers.
