New Provider Ranking of Fitness Apps Keeping It Tight as Winter Descends

MyFitnessPal

Winter is setting in. Unless you live in warmer climes, nobody wants to run or exercise in winter.

That’s a mistake. Never stop moving, especially in winter. Unless you’re asleep. It’s okay then.

In this latest Provider Ranking of Fitness Apps, what strikes us is how people find a workout app they like and stay with it. That’s a good way to get results, so we say go for what you know.

In fact, we’ll take our own advice and just go for this ranking. Deep breaths…

The Top Five

Up top, we’ve still got a two-way tie, but something’s different. At No. 1, it’s still the MyFitnessPal app — well done, you — and muscling its way into a tie for No. 1, it’s Workouts by Muscle Booster. This app has patiently worked at its ascent. Enjoy the view at the top.

Dropping a spot (but not at all self-conscious about it like some gym rat), we’ve got the Planet Fitness Workouts app at No. 2. We give a thumbs-up to this consistently ranked app.

Strava: Run, Ride, Swim tumbles one chart position to No. 3, which is hardly a tumble at all.

Not moving and yet apparently sweating anyway, it’s the Sweatcoin Walking Step Counter app mopping its brow at No. 4. No movement here. So why the perspiration? In a word: effort.

Closing out the top five at No. 5 for another consecutive cycle, we’ve got FitCoach, yelling at the apps below to get the lead out and start climbing harder. You know, like a coach would.

The Top 10

And what about those apps looking wistfully at the top five? Who’s got a shot?

At No. 6 for another cycle — and a one-time top five app at that — FitOn Workouts & Fitness Plans looks like it could break the barrier. Just a few more laps.

Coming in at No. 7, it’s the Runkeeper — GPS Running Tracker app, down a spot this cycle.

Now, for another tied score.

Meeting up at No. 8 this cycle is the Nike Training Club, which was there to begin with, and falling one spot, Map My Run by Under Armour is now sharing the space. It won’t last.

Sticking with its routine at No. 9 for another cycle is the Daily Workouts Fitness Trainer app.

Returning to the Provider Ranking of Fitness Apps after a brief absence, at No. 10, we’ve got the Workout For Women app, doing the work to make the cut. That’s what we call fitness.
