Consumers Prefer Online Shopping, Despite Safety Concerns

Fifty-nine percent of respondents said online shopping was their favorite way to make purchases in a recent Nielsen survey.

Brick-and-mortar stores still have an advantage in terms of trust; 69 percent of respondents chose in-store shopping as the most reliable option, while 77 percent consider it safest. But the ease of use with online shopping — 68 percent considered shopping online both “easiest” and “most convenient” — appears to give it the overall edge.

Additionally, 13 percent of respondents said shopping with a mobile device was their preferred method of commerce, based on its convenience (38 percent say it’s the best of the three in this category) and ease of use (27 percent).
