Discover, PayPal See In-Store Operating Rules Go Into Effect

Discover and will see its PayPal operating rules go into effect for all offline transactions today, as part of a deal reached between the two payments giants last August.

“Due to its collaboration with Discover, PayPal will be enabled, at participating merchant locations, as a form of payment on April 19. This is the date when the PayPal operating rules go into effect, governing all offline transactions,” Discover said in a statement to PYMNTS.com.

“This enablement will extend PayPal’s existing offline presence with current direct merchant partnerships such as with The Home Depot and others, and small businesses with PayPal Here. This rollout continues this month as merchants sign on, and we are on track to see PayPal in up to two million offline locations by the end of the year.”

PayPal has over 50 million active users in the United States, while Discover serves as the country’s fourth-largest payments network.
