eBay CEO: We’d Love to Acquire Airbnb

At Fortune’s Brainstorm Conference in Aspen, eBay CEO John Donahoe yesterday indicated that he’d “love” to acquire Airbnb, but that eBay can’t afford the company.

    Donahoe also praised Airbnb as “the next eBay” and “one of the more successful startups of this generation,” as TechCrunch noted. The source also indicates that Donahoe and Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky have been “informally advising each other for a few years,” and that they were introduced to each other by Marc Andreessen.

    Airbnb was most recently valued at $2.5 billion, while eBay has $11.7 billion in cash or cash equivalents, per their latest earnings release.
