Report: Google To Build Wireless Networks In Emerging Markets

Google is in the midst of plans to build and help run wireless networks in emerging markets as it plans to “connect a billion or more new people to the Internet,” according to a Wall Street Journal report.

The report cites Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa as two locations where Google is interested in expanding wireless networks. The company could use various technologies, such as airwaves reserved for television broadcasts or satellites, to distribute Internet access.

While no direct reference to payments is made in the report, the potential for eCommerce and mCommerce in such markets is self-evident.
