Report: Google Tracking Chrome Users’ Offline Buying

Google is reportedly leveraging mobile location data to track when and how logged-in Chrome users shop after searching on the service, according to a November 11 report from Marketing Land.

Google’s Estimated Total Conversions program launched last month and uses mobile device data to calculate the effectiveness of the company’s mobile ads at promoting cross-channel conversions. It accomplishes this by comparing smartphone location information with relevant Google searches.

Google had previously indicated that an offline component would debut in 2014, however, sources say it is already being beta tested.
