Visa, Worldline Bring Android NFC Payment App to France

A NFC payment app for Android users is headed to France with the help of Visa Europe France and Atos Worldline, Telecompaper reported.

This pilot program will give customers a contactless payment option at 350,000 merchants in France, and for purchases over 20 Euro a password will be required. Visa’a partnership with Worldline will allow NFC mobile payments with host card emulation with four French banks in the first quarter of 2015, according to NFCWorld. Once a customer downloads an app and activates on the Android device, a bank will provide the user a security code.

“Eventually, the service will facilitate and secure many use cases such as the payment of a ticket or loyalty programs,” Worldline said in the NFCWorld article.

Telecompaper explained more about how the app offers secure payment options: “The solution is based on Google’s Host Card Emulation technology, with cardholder data stored in the cloud rather than on the smartphone, and according to Visa Europe France CEO Gerard Nebouy, a “first test phase will be launched with four French banks in March 2015 on several thousands cards. The service could be generalized in autumn 2015.”
