It may seem like a cat and mouse chase, but when it comes to the competition between Apple and Samsung, the two take it seriously. This time, it looks like Samsung is taking a lead with an early release of its signature Galaxy Note phablet on Aug. 13.
Pushing the “Unpacked 2015” event ahead of schedule by almost a month, the Korean company is rushing to capture a bigger audience of the fast growing phablet market. Last year, Apple pulled a similar move for the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
Per leaked images, the latest version of the Galaxy Note model, which is said to be set for a release at the Lincoln Center in New York, would have a curvier body. Samsung is also believed to be set to launch its S6 Edge+ at the same event.
As the competition between the two rival companies gets fiercer, Samsung seems to have an upper hand in the game right now.
Early results from IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker showed that there were 337.2 million smartphones shipped worldwide in Q2 of 2015 of which Samsung shipped out the most units, totaling 73.2 million for the quarter.
According to the report: “Samsung remained the leader in the worldwide smartphone market but was the only company among the Top 5 to see its shipment volume decline year over year. The new Galaxy S6 and S6 edge arrived with mixed results as a limited supply of the edge models did not keep pace with the demand for the new curved handset. Older Galaxy models, however, sold briskly thanks to deep discounts and promotions throughout the quarter. All eyes will now be on the early release of the pending Note 5 and rumored S6 edge plus to come this August.”
