P97 Networks Inc., the cloud-based mobile commerce, in-vehicle payments and digital marketing solutions company, announced Monday (May 13) a reseller partnership with PayByCar to enable mobile payments utilizing the E-ZPass transponder used to pay highway tolls.

In a press release, P97 Networks said PayByCar is now certified to run on the P97 platform and is currently in a pilot deployment at Alltown sites within the Global Partners network. Alltown is Global’s home-grown convenience store brand with more than 70 locations across the Northeast.

“We were looking for innovative solutions that take convenience to the next level,” Jeff Lamoreaux, CIO at Global Partners, said in the press release. “We chose to engage with PayByCar because of their reach within our markets as well as their integration and certification on the P97 platform. It’s all about creating a simplified experience that makes our customers’ lives easier and their payments more secure.”

PayByCar leverages the large base of installed E-ZPass transponders users across 17 U.S. states to enable contactless commerce. When a driver pulls in to get gas, the E-Z Pass transponder and vehicle ID are detected by RFID sensors installed at the entrances of sites. Drivers receive mobile confirmation of their gas purchase. P97 manages all the payments and loyalty transactions via its mobile commerce platform. By linking an E-ZPass transponder to a non-toll account the driver gets to access fast fuel purchases made as simply as if they were going through a toll.

“We partnered with P97 because they are the market leader in mobile payment and loyalty aggregation for the retail and fuels marketing industry,” Anand Raman, president and COO of PayByCar, said in the same press release. “Today’s consumers want convenience in every aspect of their lives. Together, P97 and PayByCar are creating frictionless commerce experiences that increase consumer engagement and loyalty with fuel retail sites.”
