Dollar Shave Club Names New Chief Executive Officer

The Dollar Shave Club (DSC) Board of Directors has named Jason Goldberger to be the brand’s new CEO effective Jan. 19. Goldberger will report to Unilever North America President Fabian Garcia and will be a part of the beauty and personal care organization, according to an announcement.

“Jason [Goldberger] is a proven leader and experienced CEO who has demonstrated a strong track record leading brands and driving growth and the business is on an exciting upward trajectory,” Sunny Jain, president of Unilever Beauty and Personal Care globally and chair of the DSC board, said in the announcement.

Michael Dubin, who started the brand in 2011, previously told the board of his decision to leave his chief executive position and will stay with the firm as a board member and special advisor.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to pass the torch to Jason [Goldberger]. His experience, professionalism and leadership is second to none,” Dubin said in the announcement.

Goldberger has become a part of DSC just as it is beginning its “omnichannel era,” according to the announcement. Razor, shave aids and skincare items in a new brand revamp are going to brick-and-mortar stores in January.

Dollar Shave Club, a lifestyle brand providing grooming content and merchandise, rolled out in 2011 to “deliver high-quality razors for a few bucks a month.” As of that time, DSC has grown its product lines to encompass hair care, body care, oral care, skincare and premium shave aids.

Unilever is among the globe’s top suppliers of beauty and personal care, foods and refreshment and home care items with sales in more than 190 nations and reaching 2.5 billion consumers daily. Its portfolio encompasses brands such as Dove, Dollar Shave Club, Degree and Axe in the United States and Canada, among many others.

Last April, Unilever’s CEO said in a televised interview that “coronavirus is not good news for Unilever.”

“Yes, we’re seeing increases in demand in some of the hygiene products … We’re seeing a shift in demand for sure. We’re seeing a big reduction in out-of-home food consumption of ice cream and restaurant products,” Alan Jope said at the time.
