Lowe's To Provide $80 Million In Bonuses, Hire Over 50,000 Workers

Lowe’s Companies, Inc. will provide its front-line workers with a further $80 million in discretionary bonuses and intends to bring over 50,000 workers on board throughout U.S. stores this spring, according to an announcement.

The home improvement retailer said the newest bonus will bring its overall “commitment” to workers, communities and store safety amid COVID-19 to almost $1.3 billion, according to the announcement.

“We are honored to be an essential business to help our customers keep their homes safe and functional during these very challenging times,” Lowe’s President and CEO Marvin R. Ellison said in the announcement. “We’re pleased to provide this additional bonus to support our current associates and excited to welcome these new associates so we can better serve customers across the country.”

Active hourly workers at U.S. retail locations, call centers and distribution hubs will obtain the bonus on Feb. 5. Full-time hourly workers will get $300, while part-time/seasonal workers will get $150. According to the announcement, the payment will be the seventh bonus or special payment the home improvement retailer has provided to its hourly workers during the pandemic.

Moreover, Lowe’s is hiring for seasonal positions and permanent full-time and part-time positions at retail locations to assist shoppers in buying essential items and services amid the pandemic. The company says it is hiring more than 50,0000 seasonal and full-time retail workers on top of the over 90,000 workers it hired for permanent positions during the past year.

Lowe’s said it committed over $150 million to support its communities in 2020, with the inclusion of over $100 million in relief connected to the pandemic.

In separate news, Handy has made its installation services available to Lowe’s shoppers per news in December. The home improvement retailer’s customers will be able to use Handy’s services for “plumbing, garage door openers, lighting fixtures, window air conditioner units and more” under the company’s flexible pricing and timing.
