Amazon Piles on the Prime Perks to Kick off Thursday Night Football Coverage

With Thursday Night Football becoming an exclusive feature of Amazon Prime beginning Thursday (Sept. 15), Amazon is rolling out several promotions to build excitement and create awareness around this new addition to its lineup of streaming content.

The promotions include deals and VIP experiences for Prime members, the company announced Tuesday (Sept. 13) in a press release.

“Live sports continue to be a game changer for Prime members,” Vice President of Amazon Prime Jamil Ghani said in the release. “It’s now easier than ever for members to sit back and stream live football at amazon.com or on-the-go with the Prime Video app.”

For one thing, Amazon has launched a page devoted to selling products related to watching Thursday Night Football, including drinkware, home electronics and NFL-licensed apparel. Prime members will be offered exclusive deals on these sorts of items throughout the football season, according to the release.

In addition, some Prime members who had added Thursday Night Football to their Prime Video Watchlist were surprised with an offer to get a VIP experience when the game comes to their local stadium, including reserved seating and a chance to meet retired players, the release stated.

Similarly, some members who had added the show to their watchlist have been invited to attend an interactive viewing party in Los Angeles that will feature oversized screens as well as live commentary by former NFL players, per the release.

“For football fans, it’s never been a better time to be a Prime member,” Ghani said in the release.

The NFL said in May, “As part of an 11-year agreement, Prime Video will be the first streaming service to air a season-long licensed national broadcast package from the NFL.”

As PYMNTS reported in August, this deal is part of Amazon’s slow and steady build of Prime Video over the years in which the company has made enormous investment in producing and purchasing original content.
