Amazon is dedicating itself to the four-legged members of families across the U.S. with its first Amazon Pet Day Monday (May 2), the retail giant’s kickoff to National Pet Month, according to a company announcement.
The event includes savings for shoppers on home, pet and electronics products focused on the animals that bring them joy, the announcement stated.
Pet care is a space that’s becoming more crowded and competitive, with Chewy struggling to maintain the momentum it built up during the pandemic and Petco teaming with Lowe’s to find new ways to sell its products to customers who are increasingly returning to brick-and-mortar retail stores.
Prime members who shop on Amazon Pet Day can also rent or buy iconic pet movies on Prime Video, and Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card holders will receive 10% cash back on pet products as part of the Amazon Pet Day deals, according to the announcement.
Customers who shop through AmazonSmile will automatically have a portion of their purchase donated to the charity of their choice or can make their own donations by shopping from the Amazon Smile Charity Lists for animal shelters.
Amazon shoppers can also create their own Amazon Pet Profiles and receive personalized recommendations and coupons for their pet(s) all year.
“Whether you own a dog, bird, horse, reptile, or fish, Amazon Pet Profiles accommodates all sorts of breeds and species,” the announcement stated.
Chewy’s fourth-quarter earnings, ending Jan. 30, showed a $63 million quarterly loss, despite positive metrics related to sales, spending, subscriptions and new commercial ventures.

In January, Lowe’s and Petco announced a joint venture that will place store-in-store pet supply outlets inside 15 of its home improvement warehouse locations in Texas, North Caroling and South Carolina.
