Square, TikTok Team up to Link Online Sellers via Social Media Platform

Global software, payments and hardware platform Square has joined forces with short-form video platform TikTok to offer a new integration to connect online sellers to potential customers via videos on the social media platform, the companies announced in a recent press release.

The joint effort, Square x TikTok, allows sellers to send viewers directly from TikTok videos, ads and shopping tabs to products available in their existing Square Online store, according to the announcement. The integration will be available to all sellers “soon,” according to the release. Users can sign up for early access by visiting squareup.com/go/tiktoksignup.

To get started, TikTok for Business users can set up a free, fully integrated Square Online store, according to the release.

TikTok has one billion monthly active users as of this week, as PYMNTS reported.

By comparison, TikTok has roughly one-third of the users as compared to the approximate 2.89 billion monthly active users on Facebook, according to Statista. Facebook hit the one billion milestone in 2012, which demonstrates TikTok’s growth potential.

“We are constantly working to help sellers expand their online presence and reach new customers,” said David Rusenko, head of eCommerce at Square. “We’re looking forward to helping our sellers tap into a valuable, rapidly expanding new customer base on TikTok.”

Square is not the only eCommerce company looking to harness the reach of TikTok. Last month, Shopify announced it had collaborated with TikTok on shopping features for the video-sharing app, as PYMNTS reported. Shopify saw a 76% increase in its social commerce channels between February 2020 and February 2021, with TikTok the fastest-growing platform. Recent Shopify research determined that 54% of consumers ages 18 to 34 found brands on social media and 28% made purchases there.
