PayPal Hires Former Expedia Marketplace President John Kim as CPO

PayPal has said it has a new Executive Vice President (EVP), Chief Product Officer (CPO) in John Kim, formerly of Expedia, a press release says.

He will succeed current CPO Mark Britto, who plans to retire at the end of the year. Kim’s new job will entail leading the consumer and merchant product and engineering teams. He’ll help advance the company’s position as a “leader in digital payments and commerce” around the globe.

Kim previously worked for Expedia for the past decade as President of the company marketplace, where he worked on overseeing strategy, product, technology and operations for the company’s various businesses including lodging, air, car, cruise and activities.

He was also President of Platform and Marketplaces, where he worked on developing AI, user experience, research, eCommerce and yield management. He looked over the data and development platforms for Expedia’s two-sided market platform.

The press release quotes Kim as saying he’s “incredibly excited” to join the company, and that PayPal “stands alone at the intersection of technology, digital payments, financial services and commerce.”

“The scale of its two-sided global platform and reputation as one of the most trusted consumer brands in the world are true differentiators,” he said.

“I’m thrilled to welcome John Kim to the PayPal team,” said Dan Schulman, PayPal President and CEO. “John is an outstanding leader with a proven ability to build and lead high performing global teams that drive new and innovative product development. Developing new products at scale that engage customers and merchants through an exceptional user experience requires a unique combination of talents, and we’ve truly found these in John.”

PayPal also recently teamed up with the National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) and Vanguard Charitable to help out with the speed at which charities get grant funds.

PYMNTS wrote that PayPal has teamed with those entities to debut Grant Payments, which will let donor-advised fund (DAF) sponsors, community foundations and other grantmakers use PayPal to send grants electronically.
