Apple Music to Add Feature to Help Users Sing Along

Apple Music will soon add a feature that makes it easier for fans to sing along with songs.

Due to become available to Apple Music subscribers later in December, the new Apple Music Sing will allow users to adjust the volume of the vocals on songs and read lyrics in real time so that they can more easily sing along, Apple said in a Tuesday (Dec. 6) press release

“Apple Music’s lyrics experience is consistently one of the most popular features on our service,” Apple Vice President of Apple Music and Beats Oliver Schusser said in the release. “We already know our users all over the world love to follow along to their favorite songs, so we wanted to evolve this offering even further to enable even more engagement around music through singing.”

With Apple Music Sing, subscribers can adjust the volume of — though not entirely remove — the vocals so that they can choose to sing along with the original artist’s vocals or take the lead, according to the release.

They can also view real-time lyrics that are animated and dance throughout the song, the release said.

If background vocals are sung simultaneously with the main vocals, Apple Music Sing can display them independently so that they are easier for the user to follow. If there’s a duet, the new feature will display vocalists’ lyrics on opposite sides of the screen to make them easier to track, per the release.

Apple Music Sing will cover tens of millions of songs. It will be available to Apple Music subscribers worldwide on their compatible iPhone, iPad and Apple TV 4K, according to the press release.

Apple’s music and gaming revenue could reach $8.2 billion by 2025, analysts from JPMorgan said June 13.

Reuters reported that figure — a 36% increase — would come from a subscriber base of around 180 million people, including 110 million in music and 70 million in gaming. Most of that revenue would come from Apple Music, taking in about $7 billion.
